The course aims to equip licensed tourist guides with knowledge and skills to gain confidence in leading a specialised coffee tour, provide a better description of Singapore’s coffee and deepen knowledge about coffee to provide more engaging and colourful commentary.

The course aims to equip guides with the knowledge needed to effectively provide narration and share key information when introducing Chinese temples. At the end of the course, guides should have the basic knowledge and be able to explain the different building elements of Chinese temples, stories behind various icons and deities, and the significance of a vegetarian meal.

The course provides basic knowledge in Chinese herbs so that tourist guides can better explain the commonly-found herbs and common features of Chinese medical shops in Chinatown. Guides will visit Eu Yan Sang and Thye Shan Medical Hall to know more about these heritage brands and the common sections and equipment found in a Chinese medical shop.

The course aims to equip licensed tourist guides with knowledge and skills to gain a deeper understanding about the combinations of different herbs seen in Chinatown, explain in detail herbal drinks/soups/dishes found in Singapore, provide recommendations to tourists who wish to try different types of cuisine containing Chinese herbs in Singapore’s hawker centre or restaurants, gain insight into the history of the Aw brothers who created Tiger Balm and Haw Par Villa.

The course aims to equip tourist guides with knowledge of basic grooming skills and essential communication skills to better relate to guests. At the end of the course, tourist guides should have gained the basic skills of how to dress presentably and be equipped with personal grooming skills that are key to a projecting a professional image. Tourist guides will also improve on their communication skills to provide guests with a pleasant experience.

As a point of arrival, Changi Airport shapes the first impression that visitors have of Singapore. It is hence important that guides are able to provide a good commentary of the airport. For guides who do airport pick-up and departure, they will also be better able to advise visitors on the different facilities available to them in the airport and how Changi Airport creates a stress-free environment for visitors. By the end of the course, guides would have learnt how Changi Airport became one of the top airports in the world and how it has maintained this position.

This skills-based course aims to help tourist guides become better at what they do and gain skills to become a more engaging guide. By the end of the course, guides will be able to use storytelling techniques to craft and tell stories to better engage visitors.
